Introduction

India is widely recognised as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. With the rise of startups, increasing foreign investments, expanding professional education, and supportive government policies, the country’s corporate ecosystem continues to evolve.

This growth is also contributing to the rise of MICE tourism, as companies look for new opportunities for expansion, networking, business development, and sales.

The term ‘MICE’ stands for ‘Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions’. ‘MICE tourism’ essentially refers to business travel where people, usually representing companies or organisations, travel for corporate events and purposes.

In this blog, let’s explore the scope of MICE tourism in India and how its growth is influencing hotel demand in Delhi.

MICE Tourism Outlook - The Indian Context

Based on a report by Mordor Intelligence, India’s MICE tourism market size was valued at USD 37.75 billion in 2025, which is projected to reach USD 74.12 billion by 2031. For the forecast period of 2026-31, its growth is expected to be at a CAGR of 11.92%.

The report also highlights several factors that could be supporting this growth, including:

  • Government Programs & Policies - Government support includes initiatives such as the ‘Meet in India’ program, faster e-Conference Visa clearance, and capacity additions.

  • Capacity additions - The launch of the 3 lakh sq. m. Yashobhoomi and plans to add 1 lakh new branded rooms are expected to strengthen India’s MICE infrastructure.

  • Increased corporate spending - Companies are looking to tap into emerging opportunities and are therefore increasing their spending on business events and related activities.

In short, India has strong growth potential when it comes to MICE tourism.

With rapid capacity expansion and a growing number of global events being hosted in Delhi, the capital city is emerging as an important MICE destination.

This makes it important to understand how this growth is influencing hotel demand in the city.

How MICE Tourism Drives Hotel Demand In Delhi?

An article by BottIndia reports that Delhi NCR has emerged as India’s premier MICE destination, supported by world-class infrastructure including Bharat Mandapam, Yashobhoomi, IEML, and Aerocity’s premium hospitality ecosystem.

Aerocity’s luxury hospitality ecosystem needs a special mention.

What is ‘Aerocity’s hospitality ecosystem’ and what role does it play?

Aerocity Hospitality District is India’s largest and most luxurious business and leisure hub, operated on a Public-Private Partnership [PPP] model.

This area is well-connected to the airport and major convention centres such as Yashobhoomi through metro connectivity. It houses around 4,000 premium rooms across leading luxury hotel chains.

Travellers can also find several hotels in Aerocity across different price points, making it a convenient accommodation option for both business and leisure stays.

Further, its proximity to the airport makes Aerocity a convenient stay option for travellers attending corporate events in Gurugram. With convenient connectivity, they can avoid the hassle of travelling through heavy road traffic.

World-class infrastructure for hosting international events

As mentioned earlier, Delhi is home to various world-class venues like Bharat Mandapam, Yashobhoomi, and IEML.

According to a report by TravTalk India, Nikhil Sharma, MD & COO, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group, stated that average room rates across the group’s portfolio were pacing more than 25% higher year-on-year in September, ahead of the BRICS Summit. The summit is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam this September.

He further noted that demand continues to be supported by corporate travel, MICE, social events, conferences, and domestic leisure travel.

Room crunch - A Threat as Well as an Opportunity

A recently published news article by Moneycontrol reports that luxury hotels in Delhi are facing a room shortage and high tariffs ahead of this year’s BRICS Summit. In other words, the available rooms may not be enough to meet the surge in demand.

Usually, when an international event is hosted, international delegates are accommodated at some of the city’s leading luxury hotels. According to the article, several top luxury brands either had no rooms available or were offering rooms at extremely high tariffs.

While this room crunch poses a challenge, it also highlights an opportunity for luxury hotels in Delhi to expand their capacity and accommodate growing demand.

To conclude…

Delhi offers several suitable venues for hosting a wide range of events, including MICE, political, corporate, and other large-scale gatherings. The data and reports discussed above indicate that as the number of events hosted in the city increases, the demand for hotel rooms and occupancy also tends to rise.

This growing demand, however, also highlights a challenge in having enough rooms to accommodate the increasing number of visitors. At the same time, it presents a significant opportunity for hotel chains, with several leading brands rapidly expanding their presence and room capacity across the city.

As event activity continues to grow and more visitors arrive in Delhi, the demand for top hotels in Delhi is expected to remain strong and grow further in the coming years.
