Way to Coorg

Before we explore the places in Coorg, it is important to know how to reach Coorg. Coorg doesn’t have a railway station or an airport. So, if a person is willing to travel by train, then they should reach Mysore railway station, which is the nearest station to Coorg. Similarly, if a person is willing to travel by air, then they should reach the Mysore airport.

After reaching the railway station or the airport, as the case may be, he should travel by a car [a taxi] or by bus. You can also consider travelling in a rental car.

If you are travelling from Kerala to Coorg, then you will have to reach Mangalore and then travel to Coorg.

Best time to visit Coorg:

Coorg doesn’t have a specific time to visit. Whatever season you may go, Coorg never disappoints you.

Two days are sufficient to experience the stunning scenery, though not all places may be covered. But as of now, let us focus on the most beautiful places, which shouldn’t be missed in an entire human life.
These places can be covered in two days.

Places To Visit In Coorg - Day 1:

  • Golden Temple:
It is always preferred to start from here. The Golden Temple is located in Bylakuppe, approximately 5 km from Kushalanagara. The timings of this temple are from 9 AM to 6 PM. You can explore more about the Golden Temple here.

  • Nisargadhama Park:
After visiting the Golden Temple, the next place to cover is ‘Cauvery Nisargadhama’. The ‘Nisargadhama Park’ and ‘Cauvery Nisargadhama’ both refer to the same place. It is a beautiful 64-acre island in the middle of the river Cauvery. There are various things to do and also to see [like the deer park, peacock park, etc.] there.

  • Dubare Elephant Camp:
Then head towards Dubare. Dubare is basically a forest area on the banks of the river Cauvery. The place is famous for the elephant camp. Visitors can enjoy various activities like trekking, elephant ‘savari’, etc. These activities are hosted by the Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd., which is the ‘eco tourism wing’ of the Tourism Department of Karnataka.

  • Chiklihole Reservoir:
Next is Chiklihole. With greenery on one side and forest on the other, the place is a boon given by nature. However, the place looks greener in the monsoon period. Don’t worry, even a thousand summers can never steal its beauty! But the only thing is, due to less rain in summer, the water level might be low, and this makes the scenery less green when compared to the monsoon season.

  • Abbey Waterfalls:
After leaving Chiklihole, the next destination is Abbey Falls. The beauty of Cauvery flowing from 70 feet high is jaw-dropping.

  • Madikeri:
The Kodagu kings ruled by having Madikeri as their capital. So, very obviously, it has a beautiful fort, which was renovated and strengthened by various kings.
Madikeri is one of the most beautiful places, and shouldn’t be missed. There is no point in visiting Coorg without experiencing and appreciating the beauty of Madikeri. So, after Abbey Falls, you should next move to Madikeri.

  • Madikeri Glass Bridge:
This is a skywalk bridge located in ‘Pappy Coorg’s Coffee Island’. The place is very adjacent to Madikeri. The charm of the bridge, above the greenery, makes it necessary to visit this. So don’t forget to visit this place when you are at Madikeri.

  • Omkareshwar Temple:
This temple is the next in our list, after Madikeri. The place guarantees peace and joy. Don’t miss the bliss.

  • Sunset at Raja’s Seat:
Last but not least. After visiting all the places on day one, visit Raja’s Seat to witness a beautiful sunset.

With that, day 1 ends peacefully.

Now comes the big question: ‘Where to stay?’

Where to stay in Coorg?

After visiting Raja’s Seat, move to Madikeri again. You will find many well-furnished home stays in Madikeri at an affordable cost. You can peacefully stay there by spending a smaller amount of your hard-earned money. Further, try to stay at this place for both days you are in Coorg. Once you complete the journey on the second day, you can come back and stay here.

Day - 2:

Then comes day 2 at Coorg. Where to go on the second day? Yeah, follow along.

Mandalpatti View point Coorg

  • Mandalpatti:
The first place to visit on the second day is Mandalpatti. The soothing cool breeze and the beauty of the green scenery welcome you very warmly, though the climate there is chill 😜. People rush to see from the viewpoint at the peak. Other than the peak, there are several viewpoints

Going with your loved ones, eating your favourite dish, sitting at one of the viewpoints,  is the imagination mesmerising? That’s what you will experience in reality. Never miss this.
But wait! Remember that the breeze gets very strong as you near the peak. Further, try to carry food and other essentials from a nice place below. Even if you are willing to cook, it is not recommended to cook at the peak. So, try to cook in a nice place, with a bearable wind.

  • Mandalpatti off-road:
Is it only that much in Mandalpatti? No no. Don’t forget the ‘Mandalpatti Off-road’. You can travel by jeep to enjoy the off-road there.
It is always preferred to travel by jeep to Mandalpatti's peak point. You can also try trekking, if you have sufficient time and budget to do so.

  • Kote Abbe Falls:
After visiting Mandalpatti, move towards Kote Abbe Falls. Like Chlihole, visiting this place is optional. This is not as popular when compared to other famous waterfalls in Kodagu. The place is more attractive during the monsoon season.

  • Kopatty:
From Mandalpatti, you can directly move towards Kopatty if you are not visiting Kote Abbe Falls. Skipping Kote Abbe falls is recommended only during the summer season and not during the monsoon season.
Kopatty trek is one of the most underrated treks. If time permits, do try trekking here. The total time required for trekking here is approximately 3 hours. Try to complete by 6:00 PM. So you should reach the place by 2:00 PM or 2:30 PM.

These are the places to cover for the second day. After visiting Kopatty and trekking there, move towards Madikeri, back to your homestays in Madikeri, where you stayed the previous day.
